Missing person reports are submitted through our country registry sites, missingfromeritrea.org, missingfromsudan.org, missingfromethiopia.org, missingfromsomalia.org, missingfromyemen.org and missingfromsyria.org, which we operate. When you submit a report there, we collect the details you provide about yourself (name, email address, phone number and your relationship to the missing person) and about the missing person (name, age, gender, nationality, physical description and the circumstances of their disappearance).

When you use the contact form on this website, we collect your name, email address and the content of your message.

Like most websites, our hosting provider records basic technical information such as IP addresses in server logs for security and reliability purposes. We use Google Ads to measure which of our search ads help people reach us and our registries. If you accept cookies, Google may set a cookie to record that a visit came from one of our ads; if you decline, no advertising cookies are set. We never send Google names, contact details or the content of messages, and we do not use ad personalisation or remarketing.

Information submitted through our forms is used solely to document missing persons cases, follow up with the person who submitted a report, and coordinate search and awareness efforts.

We will never sell your information or use it for marketing.

Form submissions are delivered to our team by email through a form-processing service. They are reviewed by our team and stored securely.

Details about a missing person may be shared publicly (for example, in a registry or awareness campaign) only after review and with the consent of the person who reported them, or where the family has already made those details public in their own appeal. The family may ask us to correct or remove them at any time. Your own contact details as a reporter are never published.

When you apply to volunteer with Voices of the Missing, we collect the details you give us: your name, email address, phone number, location, the languages you speak, your relevant experience, why you want to volunteer and your availability. If you join us, we also keep your onboarding records (for example the confidentiality and safeguarding agreements you accept), an emergency contact if you choose to give one, and a record of the work you contribute.

Volunteer records are kept in our secure volunteer system. Only our volunteer coordinators can see them, and they are used only to organise volunteering: contacting you, assigning work, recognising your contribution and issuing certificates. Each country registry runs its own volunteer system, so applying to one of them is separate from applying here.

Your name is never published without your agreement. You can ask us at any time to correct or delete your volunteer record. When you sign in to the volunteer portal, a cookie keeps you signed in; it is not used for tracking.

We may share case information with trusted partner organisations, humanitarian networks or relevant authorities where doing so supports the search for a missing person, and only with the reporter’s consent wherever possible.

We do not share your personal information with anyone else.

Missing persons cases can remain open for many years, so we retain case records for as long as they may assist a search or reunification effort. You can ask us to correct or delete information you have submitted at any time.

Our website is served over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) and access to submitted reports is limited to our team. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect the information entrusted to us.

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal information you have provided to us. To make a request, email us and we will respond as promptly as we can.

We may update this policy as our work develops. The date of the most recent update is shown at the top of this page, and significant changes will be noted on this page.
